From the oldest vines of the Tenuta Costalunga vineyard, a wine born from patience. The product of a single Slavonian oak cask of the 2008 vintage that showed stunning character, profound aging potential. Archivio Storico rested in wait for 10 years. Then, 2018, that single barrel was drawn off into 2,500 numbered bottles; each one a snapshot of Zenato’s finest Amarone wine in evolution. With a very articulated and refined aging of 10 years in large wood. It is a fascinating wine with its bright and brilliant light ruby color. On the nose prevail scents of sour cherries, dried rose and rhubarb with a bitter licorice and smoked touches. In the mouth, the power is not lacking, but it is well indulged also by acid and dynamic fragrance of the sip, up to a savory and deep finish.
"I have always imagined paradise as a kind of library," said the writer Jorge Luis Borges. This is the direction of the Zenato Historical Archive , standard-bearer in the world and of a territory as unique as Valpolicella. "It all started exactly ten years ago, in 2008, when we put a Slavonian oak barrel to rest in the barrel cellar that kept an excellent vintage of our best Amarone della Valpolicella," says Nadia Zenato. “Since then we have decided to wait, letting time fulfill its magic and slowly transform that wine.” A decade later, the barrel was opened and its precious nectar gave birth to the first limited edition of the Zenato Historical Archive. An extraordinary collection. The purest expression of the profound love we have for wine and of the daily dedication we place at every stage of our work.” In all 2,500 bottles, to which are added 400 Magnum, all numbered and kept in a precious Slavonian oak box, the same wood in which the Archivio Storico Amarone rested before passing into glass. Packaging stands out for its minimalism and rigorous elegance. The large label is white as a sheet of paper, while the inscriptions are in black ink courier and recall the typographical effect of old typewriters. Red is reserved for the figures indicating the vintage and the bottle number, while the logo relief and Carla's signature are displayed at the bottom right.
"The 2008 vintage was nothing short of exceptional," says Nadia. "The long rest of 10 years has allowed the birth of a wine out of the ordinary, the maximum expression of the Valpolicella Classica and the combination of vines, territory and human work.” Intense and voluminous, the Amarone della Valpolicella Archivio Storico Zenato is a great red of the territory, which comes only from the best grapes of the oldest and best exposed vineyards of the Sant'Ambrogio di Valpolicella estate.
